Andreas Bakkerud, probably not known by most oppos in any way, are about to finish his debut season in the supercar class in the European Rallycross Championship (ERC). Despite having a much lower budget than other drivers in the series, he has won two rounds this year (Sweden and France), beating drivers like Petter Solberg, Sebastien Loeb and Tanner Foust.

At the start of the season the 21-year old from Bergen made a bet with the guys that broadcast the ERC, that if he won a round this year he would hitchhike from Bergen in Norway to the last round in Germany. And since he already won two, he will start the trip after this weekends round in Austria. So on Tuesday the 17th, 9 o'clock he goes from Bergen, through Norway, Sweden, Denmark and to Hamburg, where the final round is.

So, if there are any opponauts that wants to help a top-level racedriver in trouble, here's your chance! You'll also probably get on TV, because the broadcasters don't want him to cheat!

Great story! Rallycross is a great racing series (both ERC and GRC). Small, impossibly powerful cars on tight tracks mixing asphalt, dirt, gravel, etc. is a recipe for success.

I once set out to hitch-hike from my home in Budapest, to Bergen, a city i visited once before that, and was completely infatuated with. I didn't make it past Amsterdam though.... and you don't need to hear the rest, do you.

If he wants any advice, tell him to pack some black marker pens, and always write on a cardboard he can pick up from beside the paper garbage bin at any service station, where he's headed next. If he chooses destinations right, makes hitching a ride a doddle.

I don't get it. He has to hitchhike because he won a race? Seems like the bet should have been if he won, the broadcasters would have to hitchhike...

He didn't believe he would win a race this season, but the broadcasters did.

It's like: "If I win a race this season, I'll hitchhike to the last round". The broadcasters didn't set it up, he just didn't expect to get so far this season.

At 21, and with the experience and talent he has, he will be a driver to watch. I sure hope he can get enough money to do a full season next year, since it's the start of a world championship. Will fight for the second place this year for sure.

Hopefully he's not murdered by a lorry driver. Seriously talented racer though
